However, it seems that every time a new study and/or report about vitamin D comes out I learn something new. Suffice to say that's no different with Mr. Brazos Minshew's latest TriVita Wellness Report article.

I've included the article in its entirety. I hope you read it and have a chance to learn more about vitamin d.

Keeping Skin Healthy & Glowing
by Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer

"I'm tired of all this nonsense about beauty being only skin-deep. That's deep enough. What do you want, an adorable pancreas?"
- Jean Kerr

Beautiful outside, beautiful inside?
Who doesn't want beautiful skin - especially as we age? Our outside layer of skin often reflects the health of our internal organs, as we discussed in the Weekly Wellness Report on "Liver Spots."

For instance, skin hydration relies on glucosamine just as joint hydration relies on glucosamine. So, dry skin likely means dry joints. Skin that is easily torn and damaged indicates rapid aging, which likely indicates rapid aging of our circulatory system. Furthermore, skin that is easily burned by the sun may indicate that our essential fatty acid (EFA) and antioxidant reserves are low which means other tissues that rely on antioxidants and EFA for protection may also be at risk.

Therefore, beautiful skin is a good indicator of healthy reserves of critical nutrients.

Inside first...
As we age, we are likely to experience skin that wrinkles and becomes blotchy. It may start to get pigment spots and become easy to injure. There are many products and procedures you can use to help your skin from the outside and those are important. But more important is nourishing the skin from the inside.

Skin has a base of healthy fats. Most of the external emollients we use on our skin are some form of fat. However, humans are not designed to take in fats very efficiently through the skin. The best way to have a healthy base for your skin is to take OmegaPrime essential fatty acids. Two per day is good, but for skin health, more is better!

From the outside...
There is a huge industry that provides cleansers, peels and emollients for the outside of your skin. Use of skin treatments is important only after you have been nourished from the inside. Then your skin will have beauty long after the makeup has been removed. Dr. Libby's Vital C Powdered Crystals are perfect for your weekly beautiful skin routine. Try this natural deep moisturizer treatment and skin exfoliant:

Add 1/4 teaspoon of Vital C Crystals to your daily skin moisturizer and mix thoroughly.

Liberally apply the cream to your face and neck, massaging gently.

Leave on for 10 minutes.

Wash off completely with warm water; follow with a splash of cold water to close your pores.

Your skin should have a lovely glow!

Sunlight and Vitamin D
The skyrocketing incidence of diabetes, osteoporosis and certain cancers definitely say that we are not getting enough Vitamin D. The increase in insomnia and seasonal depression tells us that we are not getting enough early morning sun.

We need more sunlight. Now, how do we make it safe?

Recognize the need for sun and the need for caution. Plan your sun exposure so that you maximize the benefits while minimizing the risks. For instance, get your sunlight early in the day. Early morning sunlight does not have the high ultra-violet intensity that midday sun does. So, take a 20-minute walk in the early part of the day with your skin exposed to sunlight. This will give you the benefits without the risks of over-exposure.

Alternately, take a 20-minute walk in the evening with your skin exposed to sunlight. There are fewer UV rays in the evening than at midday, though more than in the morning. This will have a less dramatic effect than morning sun but will still provide you with many of the same benefits.

Never expose your skin to midday sun for long periods of time. Wear clothing that covers most of your skin and wear a hat that provides shade for your face and ears.

Certain nutrients work well to protect against sun damage:

Essential fatty acids interact with Vitamin D in your skin to create a bulwark of protection against harmful radiation.

Vitamin C quenches smoldering fires of oxidative stress once they have begun.

Antioxidants, such as green tea (Energy Now!) and those found in berries (Adaptogen 10 Plus) can help protect against DNA damage from radiation.

All these are excellent strategies for dealing with the stress of too much sun.

What about sunscreen?
The discussion about sunscreen is full of heated rhetoric. The first thing I will say about using sunscreen is that it is completely up to you: it's your choice! I would also point out that people have lived outdoors for thousands of years without serious risk from sun exposure. The increase in skin cancer risk came about as a "perfect storm" of severely polluted air, a low antioxidant/nutrient diet and the 40-year tanning craze that followed World War II.

The truth is that more people die of cancer related to Vitamin D deficiency than of skin cancer caused by sunburn. Again, get some morning and evening sunshine for good health, never get a sunburn and keep your skin covered when you are exposed to midday sun. Beyond these recommendations, do what seems reasonable to you!

Total health
The health of our skin can tell us much about the health of our entire body. We naturally desire that "healthy glow" and beautiful skin. And that makes sense, doesn't it? We have a tool to assess our internal health immediately at our disposal: our skin. All we have to do is learn to listen to the message of healthy skin!

In one of my previous articles, Vitamin D - Protector from Cancer, is stated that "nine out of 10 Americans are deficient in vitamin D. Furthermore, it's been documented many times that even people who spend plenty of time in the sun can still lack this vital inflammation fighter. This is becoming more and more serious because inflammation is a major cause of heart and brain attacks, high blood pressure, joint pain, bone loss, digestive problems, blood sugar imbalances and a host of other serious health problems."

So, not only is vitamin D important to help ward off cancer, but it's also a proven inflammation fighter. Some medical studies have even found that inflammation is one of the major causes of cancer. Now I'm not a medical doctors, so don't take my word for it; do your own research.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
Independent TriVita Affiliate Member, 12871028
TriVita Products

Weight Loss

Health and Wellness - Weight Loss Tips

How to keep your weight-loss! It is possible to lose weight and not gain it back. There is nothing more discouraging than to lose weight and gain it back.

Have you have experienced the joy of victory, when you have lost weight?

Have you experienced the agony of gaining back your weight loss?

Do you want to lose weight and not gain it back?

After you have reached your ideal weight, you begin to relax and enjoy your new body image. The need to punish and deprive you for eating wrong and not exercising enough is no longer necessary. You began to reward yourself for your weight loss and new body image. You enjoy the way you look in your clothes. You enjoy your greater flexibility. The acknowledgment of your weight loss by your friends and family thrills you. You have greater passion for living. You have more confidence in your relationships. You like what you see in the mirror.

Logically, these benefits from losing weight should be rewarding enough to maintain permanent weight loss. Logically and consciously, the rewards for attaining your ideal weight are the benefits from being thin.

Why aren’t the benefits from weight loss strong enough to maintain weight loss? Unconsciously, the rewards for attaining your ideal weight are eating as in the past and and insufficient exercise.

Successful weight loss and programs to lose weight fail, because people’s motivation and thinking prevent successful maintenance of weight loss. In order to maintain permanent weight loss, you must change your thinking.

Unconsciously, for many people food is a reward and functions as a tranquilizer. When food functions as a reward or tranquilizer, successful maintenance of weight loss is impossible. From this perspective, losing weight is associated with punishment and grounding, because of past over-eating and not exercising. No one likes to be punished and deprived. No one likes to be punished and deprived permanently.

If losing weight is motivated and associated with punishing and depriving you, you are doomed to fail. Although you enjoy your weight loss and want to maintain your weight loss, unconsciously your mind begins to sabotage you.

Why? For your unconscious mind, the reward for successful weight loss is over-eating again and insufficient exercising.

Successful maintenance of weight loss only is possible when obesity, overeating and failure to exercise are perceived as punishments, while weight loss, eating right and exercising are thought of as rewards.

You’re thinking and motivation for losing and maintaining weight loss must change. Eating wrong and living without sufficient exercise can no longer be the reward. Thinness, eating right, and exercising must become rewards rather than punishments.

Before you begin any change in your eating patterns, change your thinking and maintain healthy thinking through out the weight loss period and after you have lost your excess weight.

David Ogden- Helping People Help Themselves
TriVita Health and Wellness
Sonoran Bloom Click Here - New ant-inflammatory, antioxidant and detoxifying drink providing natural pain relief for inflammation and can help you lose weight
phone 1-386-308-1956 After 6PM EST
Skype seadogs11

Vitamin D

Vitamn D has always been called the sunshine vitamin. However, is it advantageous to spend large amounts of time in the sun? Is the sun harmful to your body? If the answer is yes, on the safe side, how much time can we spend in the sun?

Some of these answers will be answered in the article, To Sun or Not to Sun: The Benefits and Risks by Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer. I've posted the complete article below, and added some links so you can learn more about vitamin d, and other TriVita products.

To Sun or Not to Sun: The Benefits and Risks by Brazos Minshew

Humans have existed on earth for many thousands of years. Until recently, we spent entire days in the sun. Now, physicians and scientists say that sun exposure is "bad" for us. Is that true? When did the sun become our enemy? How much is enough and what is the best way to maintain balance when it comes to sun exposure?

Sunlight: crucial for life, health and happiness!

Life - Sunlight is crucial for life because all life on earth depends (to a greater or lesser extent) upon photosynthesis. This is the process in green plants by which carbohydrates are synthesized from carbon dioxide and water using light as an energy source. Most forms of photosynthesis release oxygen as a byproduct.

Health - Sunlight is crucial for health because sunlight creates Vitamin D as it interacts with our skin.

Happiness - Sunlight is crucial for happiness because sunlight activates hormones in the brain that create a sense of euphoria.

Humans are diurnal: we are awake in the daytime and asleep at night. We are designed to live in sunlight. Our skin interacts with sunlight to create Vitamin D, an essential part of our metabolism.

Vitamin D interacts with our bones to make them hard; without Vitamin D we get soft, deformed bones (rickets). Later in life we are at risk for osteoporosis if we have low levels of Vitamin D. This means if your bones are tender, or if you have a low blood level of Vitamin D, you may need to increase your sun exposure (see the "Take Control of Your Health" section below). Vitamin D also interacts with our hormones to balance our blood sugar. And it activates our immune system to help protect against cancer. Vitamin D is good for us in many ways. So it stands to reason that sunlight would be good for us too, wouldn't it?

The Dark Side of light

Sunlight activates melanocytes. These are pigment-containing cells in our skin that help protect us from too much sun - and too much Vitamin D - by turning dark. Most people will "tan" or darken in the sun. If the sun exposure is prolonged or too intense for this melanocyte system, we will "burn."

Overexposure to the sun creates oxidative stress similar to radiation burns from exposure to nuclear material. That's because the sun itself is a huge nuclear furnace. A radiation burn from the sun can start a chain reaction in the melanocyte and other cells. This may lead to cancer in a year or two or in a decade or two. Oxidative stress from sunburn is insidious and dangerous.

Where's the balance?

The skyrocketing incidence of diabetes, osteoporosis and certain cancers definitely says that we are not getting enough Vitamin D. And the increasing incidence of insomnia and seasonal depression says that we are not getting enough early morning sun. We need more sunlight. But how do we make it safe?

Safe sun exposure

First, it's important to recognize both the need for sun and the need for caution. Plan your sun exposure so that you maximize the benefits while minimizing the risks. For instance, get your sunlight early in the day. Early morning sunlight does not have the high ultraviolet rays that midday sun does. So, take a 20-minute walk in the early part of the day with your skin exposed to sunlight. This will give you the benefits without the risks of over exposure.

Alternately, take a 20-minute walk in the late afternoon with your skin exposed to sunlight. There are fewer UV rays in the late afternoon than at midday. So either early morning or late afternoon sun will provide you with many of the same benefits, while decreasing your risk of over exposure.

As for midday sun, never expose your skin to it for long periods of time. Wear clothing that covers most of your skin and wear a hat that provides shade for your face and ears.

Nutrients for healthy skin

Certain nutrients work well to protect against sun damage. Essential fatty acids interact with Vitamin D in your skin to help protect against harmful radiation. Vitamin C helps quench smoldering fires of oxidative stress once they have begun. Antioxidants, such as green tea and those found in berries, help protect against DNA damage from radiation. All these are excellent nutrients for dealing with the stress of too much sun.

So, is the sun our enemy? It can be if we are not careful! For most of us, however, sunlight may be the difference between good and poor health; or even between life and death! Get your sunlight, but be careful - too much of a good thing can cause trouble.

*** End of Article ***

Just like in any other aspect of our lives, moderation is the key, and since the sun is important, you need to have some exposure to the sunshine. However, many of us may not get enough sunshine, especially if you live in the northern hemisphere. Our summers are short and the winters are long, which leads to a shortage of sunshine, especially in the winter months. I believe it's important to add a vitamin d supplement to your diet. TriVita™ provides a great vitamin d and calcium supplement, called VitaCal-Mag D.

VitaCal-Mag D provides, five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, and Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect valuable nutrients, time-releasing optimal absorption.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to the TriVita Products page and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
TriVita Products

Weight Loss

Health and Wellness - Weight Loss Goals

The key to any successful weight loss plan is to set some sensible weight loss goals. Setting goals will let you track your progress and gives you a definite target to aim for. You don’t want to aim too high and set yourself up for failure or even worse, risk your health by losing too much too fast. At the same time, you want to set a goal that is a little bit of a challenge. Here are some guidelines on how to come up with a sensible weight loss goal.

Don’t lose more than 1 to 2 pounds a week.
You are aiming for slow and steady weight loss. To set your goal, decide when you want to lose the weight by, and so expect to lose 1 or 2 pounds a week. So, if you figure a time term of 6 months, you want your goal to be around 26 – 52 pounds.

Even minute goals will make a difference.
Don’t feel like you have to lose a lot of weight to make difference in your health. You will see benefits by losing as little as 10 % of your body weight. If you weigh 150 pounds, losing 15 pounds may show an improvement in your overall health and the way you feel.

Use the Body Mass Index.
Feeling overweight, or thinking that you should lose some weight can be very dark. To get a better feel for where you are at, you may want to calculate your Body Mass. Tarriance http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/calc– bmi.htm to find out what your BMI is and what it means. Adjust your weight – loss goal so you will eventually be in the “normal” clump.

Speak to your physician.
Timetable an appointment with your general practitioner. He or skirt knows your medical history and will be able to advise you on how much you should lose. It is always a commendable idea to give voice to your physician before you start any diet or exercise program.

Set Mini Goals.
Once you set your ultimate goal and have a time – plan for reaching it, gash it up into several mini goals to reach along the way. Looking at a big goal can seem a little intimidating. Breaking it up into smaller goals allows you to focus on your first mini goal and gives you a enjoyment of accomplishment when you reach that goal. Then just move on to the next mini goal until you reach your big goal.

Now that you have your weight – loss goal and the mini goals in place, start by tackling your first mini goal. I know you can succeed by approaching weight – loss one alteration at a time. Your next challenge is just to get commenced..

David Ogden- Helping People Help Themselves
TriVita Health and Wellness
Sonoran Bloom Click Here - New ant-inflammatory, antioxidant and detoxifying drink providing natural pain relief for inflammation and can help you lose weight
phone 1-386-308-1956 After 6PM EST
Skype seadogs11

Vitamin D

American experts say that vitamin D supplementation should be increased to help promote bone health and ward off diseases like osteoporosis.

According to TriVita, "the key to bone health is calcium and Vitamin D. These are the two essential ingredients that will help you maintain the strength of your skeletal system, ensure regular cellular activity, proper cardiac function, and preserve the health of other vital body systems."

Today, I'm posting the latest Health and Wellness article by Brazos Minshew, TriVita's Chief Science Officer. He explains the nature of bone and how we can prevent bone loss.

Reversing Bone Loss
by Brazos Minshew

The shocking statistics – according to the National Osteoporosis Foundation:

10 million people in North America have osteoporosis.

80% of those affected by osteoporosis are women.

1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men over the age of 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture as they age.

Following a hip fracture from osteoporosis, 1 in 4 people will die within a year (the death rate is twice as high for men as for women). Also, 1 in 4 will become complete invalids requiring long-term care.

Only one-third of the people suffering an osteoporosis-related hip fracture will heal and return to a normal life.

 A childhood disease?

To understand the process of premature bone loss we must first understand the nature of bone. Your bones are alive. But every cell in your skeleton has a lifespan. It is "born" from stem cells, it lives for many years and then it dies. When it reaches the end of its lifespan, a new bone cell replaces it.

During our youth, there are more new bone cells being born than there are old bone cells dying. As a result, our bones get longer, bigger, denser and healthier. By our teen years our bones reach PMD (peak mineral density). Therefore, the healthier our bones are as children, the longer they will last as we age. Good nutrition during childhood is so important because we are building a healthy bone foundation for our senior years.

At about age 30 the rates of bone cells being born and those dying are about equal. By age 40 the pendulum definitely swings to the other side and the amount of bone cells dying every day exceeds the amount being born. Over time, your bones become thinner, less active and are more challenged to support your body.

Bones that thin too fast are called osteopenic. About 45 million people in North America suffer from bones that are too thin. When thinning continues to the point where a bone resembles Swiss cheese (full of holes and pores), the condition is said to be osteoporosis. The bone at this stage is diseased and can fracture with the slightest stress.

Reversing premature bone loss

The best way to reverse a problem is to help prevent it in the first place.

Children and adults up to age 30 should:

Take a calcium, magnesium and Vitamin D supplement every day.

Focus on leafy green vegetables as a dietary source of calcium and magnesium.

Get at least 20 minutes of direct sunshine on 40% of their body every day as a natural source of Vitamin D.

Perform weight-bearing exercises most days of the week.

Adults over 30 should do the same things. However, bone-building requirements for adults (including supplements) need to be more rigorous. This is especially true if they have any risk factors for osteoporosis.

Growing new bone

Regardless of your age or bone density, you can help slow or stop the process of bone loss and you can start producing new, healthy bone cells. All it requires is a little time every day for exercise and sunshine, plus the right nutrients. The nutrition you need is found in whole foods – especially leafy green vegetables. Supplements can also play a critical role by providing the intense, specific nutrients needed for restoring healthy bones.

TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D™ is designed for people under age 30 as well as those over that age who have no risk factors for bone loss.

TriVita's Bone Growth Factor™ is designed for people over 30 who have risk factors for osteoporosis. This disease is characterized by the decrease in bone mass and density; i.e., the bones thin and become more porous. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, there are many different risk factors for this disease, including genetics, age, gender, menopause, certain medications and others. (For a full list of risk factors, see the National Osteoporosis Foundation link listed under the Learn More! section below). Because Bone Growth Factor has been clinically proven to re-grow bone, it is an ideal supplement for those that have Osteopathic risks.

The good news is that you can add more new, healthy bone mass every year you follow these steps – no matter how old you are or how thin your bones are. Help turn back the clock on bone loss with proper lifestyle choices and intense nutrition.

*** End of Article ***

TriVita™ VitaCal-Mag D provides, five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, and Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect valuable nutrients, time-releasing optimal absorption.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to the TriVita Products page and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028

The above information presented herein is intended for educational purposes only. During pregnancy, maintaining vitamin D and calcium levels may decrease the risks of pre-eclampsia, while gestational diabetes mellitus appears to be more common in those with low vitamin D status, although there is insufficient evidence of causality."[1]

Since our early childhood we've been told that vitamin d and calcium build strong bones. However, the research from this study may show that it's just as important while a child is still in the womb. It seems that pregnant mothers, just as much as young children, need their daily requirement of vitamin d and calcium.

That said, it may be just as important for expectant mothers to be on some sort of a daily multi-vitamin program. "Folic acid in combination with a multivitamin supplement has been associated with a decrease in specific birth defects...Women in the reproductive age group should be advised about the benefits of folic acid in addition to a multivitamin supplement during wellness visits (birth control renewal, Pap testing, yearly examination) especially if pregnancy is contemplated."[2]

When it comes to our health, proper diet is of utmost importance. However, with the high-paced society we live in, it's not always easy to eat a healthy meal. That's why we need, not only vitamin d and calcium but, a daily regiment of multi-vitamins. Even though most multi-vitamins contain vitamin d and calcium, they may not contain the appropriate amount, especially if you're a mother-to-be.

"There are ongoing research studies to examine the effect of vitamin D on the developing fetus," Dr. Catherine M. Gordon, director of the Children's Hospital Bone Health Program at Children's Hospital Boston, says. "It is known that many mothers are vitamin D deficient, which explains why we are seeing such high rates of vitamin D deficiency among newborns and young children. It is critically important that a pregnant woman receive at least 400 IU of vitamin D daily (the amount in many prenatal vitamins) and a higher dose if prescribed by their obstetrician."[2]

If you're thinking about having children, or are pregnant, adhering to a strict vitamin d and calcium regiment may be in you, and your unborn child's best interest.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
TriVita Products

Resources:
[1] http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20440696
[2] http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18053387
[3] http://www.pregnancytoday.com/articles/healthy-safe-pregnancy/vital-vitamin-d-6272/

The above information presented herein is intended for educational purposes only. If you're like me, your mother probably told you to drink your milk. The reason; because you need it to build strong bones. Whether you belive it or not, that was, more than likely, the ulterior motive behind getting you to drink your milk.

I always drank my milk, and continue to do so, no matter what the motive because I know how important vitamins and minerals are to staying healthy. That's why, even to this day, I take daily vitamin supplements to make sure I get the necessary vitamins and minerals that will keep me on a healthier course as I continue to age. Included in those supplements are, of course, vitamin d and calcium, two bone building and strengthening nutrients.

As a mater of fact, a recent study says that "taking both calcium and vitamin D supplements on a daily basis reduces the risk of bone fractures, regardless of whether a person is young or old, male or female, or has had fractures in the past, a large study of nearly 70,000 patients from throughout the United States and Europe has found."[1]

Aging has a way of affecting the bones in our body, which leads to what is called bone density loss. Bones, a "living tissue like other tissues and organs"[2], are subject to calcium depletion during the aging process. The depletion of calcium leads to lower bone mass, which in turn, leads to increased susceptibility of fractures.

"Normal calcium intake and exposure to Vitamin D often create healthy bone tissue until people peak at age 30. Then, people begin to lose bone density; by age 50, it can become problematic. Osteoporosis - a term used to describe the loss of normal bone matrix - is common and is estimated to afflict approximately 40 million Americans."[2]

Many people think that calcium and vitamin d are only needed for aging women. However, according to the study, the "combination of supplements (vitamin d and calcium) benefits both women and men of all ages, which is not something we (the scientists) fully expected to find."[1]

As you can see, aging is the great equalizer. Aging does not happen to women only; it happens to both men and women! Loss of bone mass, due to the aging process does not happen to women only; it happens to men also. Even though a greater percentage of women are affected by the loss of bone density, men and women alike need to monitor their bone density. In so doing, it's also smart to adhere to a daily supplement of vitamin d and calcium.

Everyone of us is getting older, and everyone's body ages differently. However, as the study revealed, there is a "growing consensus that combined calcium and vitamin D is more effective than vitamin D alone in reducing a variety of fractures."[1]

440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028

Sources:
[1] http://www.genengnews.com/news/bnitem.aspx?name=72928595
[2] http://www.muschealth.com/healthyaging/bone_density.htm

The above information presented herein is intended for educational purposes only. As a matter of fact, and according to many health professionals, it helps "promote bone health and ward off diseases like osteoporosis." However, many people are deficient of this all important vitamin.

The statistics are unbelievable when it comes to vitamin D deficiency. According to experts, nearly 80 percent of Americans are deficient in vitamin D. WOW!! Why all the concern? Because this leads to an increased risk for inflammation, heart problems, weak bones, osteoporosis, unhealthy blood pressure levels, decreased immunity and memory loss; not to mention a major strain on our health care system.

As with most of my articles, I try to keep you informed of health risks, and I try to pass along information when I receive it. Today is no exception! Brazos Minshew, Chief Science Officer for TriVita, in his Weekly Wellness Report, explains how to test yourself for vitamin d deficiency, explains the signs of deficiency, reasons for deficiency, and what you can do about it.

I've included the complete article below. Please read this article and make sure you do o become one of the deficiency statistics. There is help, and you can do something about it.

Test Yourself for "D"eficiency by Brazos Minshew

With your thumb, press on your sternum (breastbone). Is it tender or painful? Now, press on the tibia (shin bone) of both your legs. Is it sore or tender? If the answer is "yes" to both of these tests then you have a 93% chance of being Vitamin D deficient. Vitamin D may be the most prevalent vitamin deficiency in our culture. What is Vitamin D and what does it do for us?

Function of Vitamin D
Vitamin D is both a vitamin (vital amine) and a hormone. It acts as a vitamin when it binds with calcium for proper absorption. Humans cannot digest calcium without adequate amounts of Vitamin D.

Vitamin D is a hormone (a messenger inside your body) because it directs cells, organs, muscle and bone in daily activity. It is a hormone because your body creates it in response to sunlight on your skin. It participates in weight loss, the function of your immune system, blood sugar regulation and basic human metabolism.

Humans mobilize essential fatty acids, such as Omega-3, with Vitamin D. In order to properly use calcium and Omega-3 you simply must have enough Vitamin D. Yet, many people don't.

Signs of deficiency
The test above is one way of checking for low levels of Vitamin D. You see, calcium and other minerals are delivered to an area in your bones that is like a gelatin matrix. This gelatin matrix hardens into sturdy bone. Calcium can only arrive in this matrix if it is escorted by Vitamin D. If you are deficient in Vitamin D, this matrix will revert back to gelatin near the surface of the bone. Tenderness and bone pain will result.

This kind of bone pain can be seen in cases of osteomalacia (softening of the bones), as well as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and even the pain associated with chronic depression.

Further, Vitamin D deficiency can result in:

Obesity

Type 2 diabetes

High blood pressure

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Psoriasis

Eventually, Vitamin D deficiency may lead to cancer (especially breast cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer), osteoporosis and Alzheimer's disease.

Reasons for deficiency
The primary reasons people become deficient in Vitamin D are cultural. For instance, women that wear veils in certain cultures are almost universally deficient in Vitamin D, as are submariners who spend extended time submerged. Neither group spends much time with their skin exposed to direct sunlight. The most common reasons for Vitamin D deficiency in North America also relate to lack of exposure to sunlight and infrequent consumption of cold-water fish. Cold-water fish such as wild salmon, mackerel and sardines are good food sources of Vitamin D - as well as good sources of calcium and Omega-3 fatty acids.

Many foods have been supplemented with Vitamin D, but this has not resulted in an overall increase in Vitamin D levels. This is likely because food and supplement manufacturers rely on an inexpensive form of synthetic Vitamin D called "ergocalciferol" - a form of Vitamin D-2. Food sources of Vitamin D and supplements such as TriVita's Bone Growth Factor, VitaCal-Mag D and Leanology Capsules use Vitamin D-3 (cholecalciferol), which is the same form that your body makes from sunshine.

What to do?
If your bones are tender or if you have a low blood level of Vitamin D the solution may be as simple as increasing your sun exposure. Spend 20 minutes daily in the sunshine with 40% of your skin surface exposed. Morning and evening sunshine is best; afternoon sun is acceptable. Never allow yourself to sunburn.

When supplementing with Vitamin D always choose D-3. It is also good to remember that this is a "fat soluble" vitamin. That means that you can store the nutrient for many days.

I will often suggest two capsules of TriVita's Bone Growth Factor or two tablets of VitaCal-Mag D to be taken at every meal. Test the tenderness in your sternum and shin bones every 6 months. Reduce your supplements to one capsule or tablet per meal when the tenderness has disappeared from the sternum and shin bones.

If Leanology Capsules are a more appropriate source of Vitamin D for you (if you are overweight and otherwise in a low-risk category for osteoporosis), taking two capsules at each meal is a good strategy. However, since most overeating occurs in the evening and since Vitamin D reduces appetite, it may be best to take three to six Leanology capsules all in the evening.

It is good to get a blood test for appropriate blood levels of Vitamin D twice a year and a DEXA scan of your bones at least every two years to help you structure a supplement program.

Eventually, health comes down to healthy habits practiced every day. Every day we should nourish our body and nurture our spirit for sustained health. **END of ARTICLE**

Now I'm not a doctor or even in the health care industry, but I do a lot of research and read a lot of articles. In fact most doctors who recommend Vitamin D share that winter cold and flu outbreaks are directly related to a Vitamin D deficiency.

There is growing evidence that links low Vitamin D levels to stroke, congestive heart failure and common heart disease risk factors such as hypertension, obesity and diabetes. In fact patients with Vitamin D levels below 15 ng/ml double their chances of heart attack or stroke within the next five years. Doctors from all around the world have concluded that vitamin D essential to promote healthy heart and brain function, relieve pain and inflammation, support strong bones, and also boost your mood. Researchers have also discovered that there's a link between vitamin D deficiency and bone loss in patients with HIV.

I believe the list will continue to grow, as more and more research is done on this all important nutrient. No matter what your situation is, it's important to make sure you're getting the proper daily amount of vitamin D from the best source available, like TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D.

The statistics are staggering when it comes to vitamin D deficiency. According to experts, nearly 80 percent of Americans are deficient in vitamin D. To me, that's just unbelievable! Why all the concern, because this leads to an increased risk for inflammation, heart problems, weak bones, unhealthy blood pressure levels, decreased immunity and memory loss; not to mention a major strain on our health care system.

If that news isn't bad enough, there are additional studies indicating a greater risk for abnormal cell growth in patients who are deficient in the sunshine vitamin. [1] In fact, during some of the studies conducted it's been found that up to 50 percent of subjects analyzed that were vitamin D deficient also suffered from serious health problems.

It's possible that you think you're getting enough vitamin D by eating foods "enriched" or "fortified" with vitamin D. However, foods like milk, cereal, margarine, pudding, and vitamin drinks may not be supplying you with enough of a daily dose. Even though these previously mentioned foods do have "some" source of vitamin D you may not be getting the right kind of vitamin D.

As mentioned previously, the proper vitamin D is needed to help fight inflammation and protect every cell in your body. And the vitamin D you get from sunshine could be your most effective weapon for maintaining a healthy body. But now the bad news; as you age (yes, get older), your body may no longer be able to efficiently produce adequate levels of Vitamin D from exposure to sunlight alone. It may be time to commit to taking a daily supplement of vitamin D.

What supplement should you take, and how much vitamin D is needed? Well, a lot of experts recommend an absolute minimum of 1,000 IU of vitamin D per day. And I've seen some articles that suggest taking up to six times that much for individuals over 50. So, that would relate to between 4,000 and 6,000 IU per day. Even the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves supplementation of up to 2,000 IU of vitamin D a day.

Now I'm not a doctor or even in the health care industry, but I do a lot of research and read a lot of articles. Not only does this inflammation fighter help promote healthy heart and brain function, but new studies show the vitamin can help slow down the progression of certain cancers. As a matter of fact, according to numerous studies and medical journals vitamin d, the sunshine vitamin, may be the key to optimum health. It's no surprise that some scientists call Vitamin D the ultimate weapon for protection from disease.

However, nine out of 10 Americans are deficient in vitamin D. Furthermore, it's been documented many times that even people who spend plenty of time in the sun can still lack this vital inflammation fighter. This is becoming more and more serious because inflammation is a major cause of heart and brain attacks, high blood pressure, joint pain, bone loss, digestive problems, blood sugar imbalances and a host of other serious health problems.

Results of a recent study, presented at the American Society of Hematology's annual meeting in New Orleans, states that "a high proportion of community-dwelling subjects in both tropical and temperate climates are deficient in vitamin D, and that subjects in northern latitudes often require dietary supplementation to maintain vitamin D sufficiency." [1]

They also go on and say that "several reports now suggest that vitamin D sufficiency is protective against the development of several cancers, including non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). However, it is not known whether vitamin D impacts prognosis in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the most common NHL subtype." [1]

You can read the background, methods, and results of the entire study by copying and pasting the web site address which is listed under the resources heading. But part of the conclusion states that "approximately 50% of all DLBCL patients in this northern US latitude population are vitamin D deficient at the time of diagnosis and treatment. Vitamin D deficient patients have an inferior event-free and overall survival compared to patients with vitamin D levels within the normal range."

The conclusion of their study should solidify the thought that vitamin D is important. Furthermore, there's some good news if you feel you're vitamin D deficient: It's possible to restore healthy levels of vitamin D by starting a daily routine of VitaCal-Mag D from TriVita dangerous health problems. However, you must have the highest quality, and most absorbable vitamin D for optimum bone, heart and brain health; TriVita's VitalCal-Mag D fits the bill.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to the TriVita Products page and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028

Resources:
[1] ash.confex.com/ash/2009/webprogram/Paper24656.html

The above information presented herein is intended for educational purposes only. However, there is one mineral that helps to repair and strengthen our bones and body tissue; that is calcium. When calcium is combined with vitamin D, it's possible to boost your bone mass, muscle strength, blood vessel dilation and nervous system.

For years we have been taught that calcium builds strong bones. I can remember my mother saying, "drink your milk it builds strong bones." As we have all learned, milk was the best source of calcium. That is, until now, where we have TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D.

TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D is also absorbable so you can get the nutrition you need for healthier bones.

Even though we have been taught that calcium is what's need to build strong bones, a lot of research has proven that it's actually the combination of calcium and vitamin d that works the best. That's why I believe TriVita developed this product, and that's why there are many other products available on the market with this distinct combination of vitamins and minerals. In fact, it's been proven through scientific research and case studies that vitamin d plays a role in neuroprotection.

Yes, there is a growing body of evidence linking the development of Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia to vitamin D deficiency. The existing evidence centers around the fact that low serum levels of vitamin D have been associated with increased risk for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, depression, cavities, osteoporosis and periodontal disease. All of these conditions are considered either a risk factor for dementia or may precede its onset.

This may be a long way from drinking your milk to build strong bones, but nonetheless, it's every bit as important. If you're growing older, and who isn't, you owe it to yourself to go to Google and do additional research on vitamin d deficiency. This is an ever growing area of concern, and one that's not going to go away any time soon. Well a new study conducted by the Heart Institute at Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City suggests that "Vitamin D contributes to a strong and healthy heart as well – and that inadequate levels of the vitamin may significantly increase a person's risk of stroke, heart disease, and death, even among people who've never had heart disease."

This study has been going on for more than a year, and was conducted on "27,686 patients who were 50 years of age or older with no prior history of cardiovascular disease." The participants within this study all had routine blood tests to check for vitamin d. There were three different groups created - "normal (over 30 nanograms per milliliter), low (15-30 ng/ml), or very low (less than 15 ng/ml)" - where participants were placed according to their individual results.

"Researchers found that patients with very low levels of Vitamin D were 77 percent more likely to die, 45 percent more likely to develop coronary artery disease, and 78 percent were more likely to have a stroke than patients with normal levels. Patients with very low levels of Vitamin D were also twice as likely to develop heart failure than those with normal Vitamin D levels."

Previously, medical experts said that vitamin D supplementation should be taken, and/or increased to help promote bone health and ward off diseases like osteoporosis. However, since the new study that was presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Conference on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 in Orlando, Florida, you may see a shift in the way medical professionals will look at vitamin d.

I'm not suggesting that you run out and purchase an exorbitant amount of vitamin d, but what I am suggesting, is that you take another look at this vitamin, and ask your doctor if it really is as important as this new study suggests. I'm not a medical professional, nor do I suggest that I am, however, when I read article regarding health and wellness, I do a little more investigating.

Our health is nothing to take for granted. As we all know, the healthcare industry has enough struggles of its own. If we can do our own research, listen to our primary care professional, and take every preventable measure to ensure that we get the proper vitamins and nutrients each and every day, we will be doing our part to improving not only the healthcare industry, but also our health.

Vitamin D has always been know as the sunshine vitamin, but many of us do not get enough sunshine to get the recommended requirements of this all important vitamin. So, as winter approaches in the northern hemisphere, may I suggest TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D.

TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D is also absorbable so you can get the nutrition you need for healthier bones.

According to TriVita, "the key to bone health is calcium and Vitamin D. These are the two essential ingredients that will help you maintain the strength of your skeletal system, ensure regular cellular activity, proper cardiac function, and preserve the health of other vital body systems."

TriVita has known for some time about vitamin d and its affect on the heart, as you can see by the quote above. The study listed above backs up what TriVita has been advocating for some time.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to the TriVita Products page and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028

Sources:
[1] www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2009-11/imc-nsl111009.php

Vitamin D

I'm sure you've heard or read this many times, the human body naturally produces vitamin D through exposure to sunlight. Even with all the evidence pointing to these facts, why do so many Americans avoid the sun and take the chance of making insufficient amounts of vitamin d?

Some reasons may include computer games, fear and even laziness. I believe the media, along with the medical profession has given the sun a bad rap. Yes, it may cause cancer, and I'm not a doctor, but my feeling is it takes a lot more exposure to the sun than what's recommended to produce the vitamin d your body needs.

According to experts, "it takes about 30 minutes of exposure to strong (summer-strength) sunlight to avoid deficiency, and darker skinned people need more exposure than the lighter skinned do." This may explain why African-Americans, people of Middle-Eastern descent, some Hispanics, and other dark skinned people suffer higher rates of vitamin D deficiency.

I written on this subject before, but it's worth repeating. Most people who live in the northern states don’t get enough strong sunlight during the winter months. On the other side, those living in the southern states may not make sufficient vitamin D during the summer especially if they "over-avoid" the sun or use excessive amounts of sunscreen.

As more and more Americans continue to live their lives indoors, that is, with little or no exposure to strong sunlight for the 20 to 40 minutes a day, for light skinned people, or more, for darker skinned people, you will see an increase of cases of vitamin d deficiency. This sunlight exposure is very important to produce adequate blood levels of vitamin d.

No many foods contain a lot of vitamin d. However, tuna and salmon contain the highest amounts of vitamin d. Even milk, fortified with vitamin d, is not a great source of this all important vitamin.

As mentioned many times in my articles, I'm not a doctor, but I am a person that does research and reads a lot of medical articles. I'm also a health conscious person who promotes health and wellness products from TriVita. Before TriVita, it was Pharmanex, another great company with great products.

So why the change, you may ask? Two reasons; team support and religious belief. Yes, I had very little, if any, support from my team, and felt closer to people that had the same religious beliefs that I had.

Both TriVita and Pharmanex have terrific products, and they both do plenty of scientific research before releasing any product. I've been taking vitamin supplements and researching these supplements for almost ten years now. I can honestly say that I would rather play the odds, and take scientifically proven vitamin supplements, rather than adhere to the idea that they do not work. When it comes to scientific proof, or public opinion, I'll go with the proof.

One way that I found to avoid vitamin d deficiency, is to take TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, a supplement that is a combination of calcium and vitamin d. VitaCal-Mag D provides five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D.

Follow my lead, and do your research. Start taking supplements that have been scientifically proven, and then, spread the word.

You can learn all about vitamin supplements, and vitamin D by going to the TriVita Products website.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
Additional Vitamin D Information

The above information presented herein is intended for educational purposes only. The evidence backing up what I've written continues to pile up. In a recent article by Vital Choice's Craig Weatherby, findings concur that an intake level higher than the recommended daily allowance (RDA) is needed to prevent falls and fractures.

Falls that break hip or pelvis bones often lead to a serious downward health spiral ... and the results of clinical trials indicate that vitamin D pills can reduce the risk of falling among older people. Vitamin D is a critical factor in bone health, but it is clearly better to prevent falls than to hope that stronger bones will withstand the shock.*

As mentioned in several of my articles, preventative medicine is always the best solution. And if we can prevent fractures, especially of the hip - quite common to the elderly, by strengthening the muscular system, which in turn will prevent many of the unnecessary falls, then we will have accomplished our mission.

Now, a new analysis of the best clinical evidence finds that the US recommended daily allowance (RDA) for vitamin D intake by adults aged 51 to 70 (400 IU) is only about half the dose needed to reduce the risk of falls among older people (Bischoff-Ferrari HA et al. BMJ 2009).
The current RDA for vitamin D are 400 IU for adults aged 51 to 70 and 600 IU for people over 70. And the RDA for all persons younger than 51 is a scant 200 IU.*

So, how much vitamin d is needed to be effective in producing stronger muscles? And what does vitamin d have to do with stronger muscles? Those are two very important questions that can be answered by the team of researchers that have been conducting studies around the world. First, let's look at the daily doses needed to build stronger muscles.

Though the official safe upper intake limit is only 2,000 IU per day, vitamin D intake is proven safe at 10,000 IU per day … a daily level that’s 25 times the current RDA for adults 51 to 70 (400 IU) and 16 times the current RDA for adults over 70 (600 IU).
Most experts recommend taking at least 1,000 IU via food and supplements, and prefer an intake of 2,000 IU to 4,000 IU per day ... unless most of your skin is exposed to 20 to 30 minutes of strong sunlight per day.*

Is all the research too new for the government to change their position on the RDA of vitamin d? Is there too much money to be made by the medical facilities that preventing fractures will actually take away some of their revenue? I may be talking out loud, or voicing my opinion, but preventing any type of injury or illness makes sense to me.

So, what does vitamin d have to do with building strong muscles?

Vitamin D stimulates synthesis of protein, the building material for muscle (Hamilton B 2009).
And as USDA researchers wrote this year, "Vitamin D supplementation has been shown to improve tests of muscle performance, reduce falls, and possibly impact on muscle fiber composition and morphology in vitamin D deficient older adults." (Ceglia L 2009)*

If you're looking to prevent falls by strengthening your muscular system, try TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D. VitaCal-Mag D nutritionally supports your body to improve muscle, nerve, and enzyme function. The RDA for this vitamin d supplement is 400 IU; however, if you double the dosage, you will be closer to what the authors of the studies recommend.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to TriVita Products and click on the Vitamin D link.

* All quotes are taken from the sources article listed below.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
Vitamin D

Sources:

http://newsletter.vitalchoice.com/e_article001576264.cfm?x=bgbL9MD,bfv5gTb0

The above information presented herein is intended for educational purposes only. Is diet alone, enough to sustain a healthy body, or are vitamin and mineral supplements needed to get your daily requirements of the proper nutrients? This has been an ongoing argument for some time, and will probably continue for many years to come.

A lot of researchers say that the food we eat today is fortified with plenty of nutrients. The once common vitamin deficiency diseases such as scurvy and rickets (caused by a lack of vitamin C and vitamin D, respectively) have nearly disappeared in America and other advanced countries. For the most part, researchers believe that with a few exceptions, like the elderly or pregnant women, most people don't need supplements.

Ok, hold on; before you go and throw all of your vitamin supplements bottles away, continue reading.

There are some researchers who maintain that the diets of many Americans still fall well short on several essential nutrients. However, the lack of these nutrients is not enough to cause those debilitating deficiency diseases, but perhaps enough to miss out on their benefits without extra help from supplements.

While the most popular, and probably the least effective, supplement is the multivitamin. There is little evidence to support the fact that they do any good, yet many make claims that cannot be supported. Some researchers do say that multivitamins are "an inexpensive insurance policy," says David Schardt, senior nutritionist at the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

On the upside, there is a growing consensus that states Americans get too little vitamin D, which is needed to help the body absorb calcium. Calcium is important for healthy bones, and can help in the prevention of osteoporosis. Extra calcium to protect bone health is safe and is routinely prescribed for women who get too little from food. Because vitamin d and calcium work hand-in-hand, you may see nutritional supplements that contain both calcium and vitamin d.

TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D is one such supplement. According to TriVita, "the key to bone health is calcium and Vitamin D. These are the two essential ingredients that will help you maintain the strength of your skeletal system, ensure regular cellular activity, proper cardiac function, and preserve the health of other vital body systems."

There are many supplements that can help you maintain a healthy body, So before you clean out you medicine cabinet, do some research. If you have supplements that can help, follow the directions on the back of the bottle and start taking them. They do absolutely no good sitting in your medicine cabinet. On the other hand, there are some supplements that do just as much good, in your body, as sitting in the cabinet.

Do your research, and start taking supplements that have scientific proven results. You can then help support one side of the argument; are vitamin and mineral supplements needed?

You can learn all vitamin supplements, and vitamin D by going to the TriVita Products website.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
Additional Vitamin D Information

Vitamin D

With all the current pregnancies in our church, I thought I'd look into some of the disorders that may arise during a pregnancy. I also looked at vitamins and minerals, and their affect, both good and bad, on pregnant women. One such order that I've found is Preeclampsia, which from at least one study showed that all the women suffering from this disorder had low levels of vitamin d and omega-3.

What is Preeclampsia?

According to the Preeclampsia website, "Preeclampsia is a disorder that occurs only during pregnancy and the postpartum period and affects both the mother and the unborn baby. Affecting at least 5-8% of all pregnancies, it is a rapidly progressive condition characterized by high blood pressure and the presence of protein in the urine. Swelling, sudden weight gain, headaches and changes in vision are important symptoms; however, some women with rapidly advancing disease report few symptoms." [1]

The exact causes of Preeclampsia remain unclear, although researchers suspect poor nutrition, high body fat, immune deficiencies, and insufficient blood flow to the uterus, with ethnicity and heredity seen as possible factors.

Hopes have been raised for a number of possible preventive factors – including antioxidant vitamins and chocolate – but these indications were not supported by subsequent research (Triche EW et al. 2008; Rumbold A et al. 2008; Klebanoff MA et al. 2009). [2]

Can low vitamin D levels have an affect on women during their pregnancy?

A recent study conducted in Norway showed that "nulliparous women who develop Preeclampsia had low concentrations of vitamin D in serum sampled in mid-pregnancy. The aim of the present study was to estimate the association between intake of vitamin D during pregnancy and the risk of Preeclampsia in 23,423 nulliparous pregnant women taking part in the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study." [3]

The findings in the study may not be conclusive, however, it did show that women who had Preeclampsia, did have a lower level of vitamin d. "The findings are consistent with other reports of a protective effect of vitamin D on Preeclampsia development. However, because vitamin D intake is highly correlated with the intake of long chain n-3 fatty acids in the Norwegian diet, further research is needed to disentangle the separate effects of these nutrients." [3]

Because of the high consumption of fish in the Norwegian diet, researchers also noted that the women who reported higher vitamin D intake also reported higher omega-3 intake (from food and/or pills). This makes sense, given that fish are by far the best food sources of both nutrients.

You may have heard that omega-3 essential fatty acids are an important part of your diet, and so is vitamin d. Whether you are pregnant or not, eating healthy foods and taking a daily supplement is the key to good health.

A good source of vitamin d is TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, which provides, five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, and Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect valuable nutrients, time-releasing optimal absorption.

And a good source of omega-3 is TriVita's Omega Prime, which meet the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to TriVita Products and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
Vitamin D

Sources:
[1] http://www.Preeclampsia.org/about.asp
[2] Triche EW, Grosso LM, Belanger K, Darefsky AS, Benowitz NL, Bracken MB. The University of Maine conducted a study led by Dr. Susan Sullivan, and has concluded that people living in the northern hemisphere need four times the amount of this all important vitamin in the winter months.

The current recommended daily requirement of vitamin D is "200 IU for people up to 50 years of age, 400 IU for people between 51 and 70, and 600 IU for over the 70s years. However, according to new findings published in the Journal of Nutrition, daily intakes of 20 micrograms are required for twenty-something women to achieve optimized vitamin D status living in Maine." [1]

Vitamin D is often called the sunshine vitamin because the body synthesizes it from sunlight - specifically, from UV-B rays, most commonly known as the burning rays. These burning rays are most available between 10 am and 2 pm, in places further from the equator. Most of us avoid spending a lot of time in the sun during these hours because of the risk of skin cancer and premature skin aging, which comes from over-exposure to the sun, or sunburn.

People living in the northern most parts of the world do not get enough exposure to sunlight during the winter months. That's the reason for the increased amounts of vitamin D. "While our bodies do manufacture vitamin D on exposure to sunshine, the levels in some northern countries are so weak during the winter months that our body makes no vitamin D at all, meaning that dietary supplements and fortified foods are seen by many as the best way to boost intakes of vitamin D." [1]

The major function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. Recent research also suggests it may provide protection from osteoporosis, hypertension, heart disease, certain cancers and several auto immune diseases including diabetes.

"In adults, it is said vitamin D deficiency may precipitate or exacerbate osteopenia, osteoporosis, muscle weakness, fractures, common cancers, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases and cardiovascular diseases. There is also some evidence that the vitamin may reduce the incidence of several types of cancer and type-1 diabetes." [1]

As researchers continue to gather information about vitamin D, many companies like TriVita have already taken action to produce a supplement that can generate the same natural benefits of sunshine. Since our bodies cannot manufacture without sunlight, we need to be taking a daily supplement.

The nutritional experts at TriVita know the importance of vitamin D. That's why they have created VitaCal-Mag D.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to TriVita Products and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028

Sources:
[1] www.nutraingredients.com/Research/Four-times-current-vitamin-D-doses-needed-for-winter-levels-Study/?c=m6wryBCkbEotmub3lbhtuQ%3D%3D&utm_source=newsletter_daily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter%2BDaily

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a powerful inhibitor of cancer development and growth - and vitamin D is produced almost entirely by exposure to the sun. It's been noted that just 30 minutes of direct sunlight produces up to 50,000 international units (IU) of vitamin D.

In the 1970s and '80s, the medical establishment, led by dermatologists, sounded an alarm over the rising number of malignant melanomas in the United States. Since doctors believed that most skin cancers were the result of too much exposure to UVB rays from the sun, they launched a campaign to persuade people to use sun blockers and stay out of the sun.

This campaign caused more problems than it corrected. Skin cancer is also caused by UVA rays, which most sun blocks don't block, and since the sun was considered the main source of vitamin D, many people became vitamin D deficient. Thus, by making people vitamin D deficient, they inadvertently increased people's risk of developing all forms of skin cancer, including the deadly malignant melanoma.

That's only part of the problem when it comes to vitamin D deficiency. Recent research has revealed that vitamin D deficiency also contributes to serious neurological and brain disorders, including autism, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's.

Dr. Russell Blaylock, a M.D., a board-certified neurosurgeon, and a practicing physician for more than 30 years, has created an important report that explains the importance of vitamin D, and what most of the medical experts are not telling you. I've read some of Dr. Blaylock's report, and the information he provides will change the way you view your doctor's agenda.

Vitamin D is a very complex substance. For more than half a century vitamin D was thought only to mineralize bones. But recent studies, according to Dr. Blaylock's report, indicate that it does much more:

Regulates calcium in all cells (especially brain cells)

Protects the immune system

Regulates cell growth and cell death

Provides antioxidant and antiviral benefits

Dr. Blaylock also says, "we now know that vitamin D deficiency is very common in the elderly. This makes sense because so many are house-bound and avoid sun exposure."

Since many of us do not get enough sunlight exposure, we need to take a daily vitamin D supplement. This vitamin is too important to the health of your body to ignore.

TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, is my choice for vitamin D. It provides, five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, and Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect valuable nutrients, time-releasing optimal absorption. Some of the research shows that vitamin D helps metabolize calcium in the body and prevent diseases such as osteoporosis. With that said, there is now new information which indicates that there are several areas around the world at risk for vitamin D deficiency along with related complications.

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) has created another report which says there are several factors that lead to "widespread deficiency and subsequent problems with bone health."

"Vitamin D is mainly produced in the skin upon exposure to sunlight, and, to a lesser extent, is derived from nutritional sources. It plays an important role, through its influence on calcium levels, in the maintenance of organ systems, and is needed for normal bone mineralization and growth. Suboptimal levels of vitamin D may lead to increased risk of osteoporosis and hip fracture and, in severe cases, to the development of rickets, a softening of bones in children that can lead to skeletal fractures and deformity." [1]

"Osteoporosis, which literally means 'porous bone', is a disease in which the density and quality of bone are reduced. As the bones become more porous and fragile, the risk of fracture is greatly increased. The loss of bone occurs 'silently' and progressively. Often there are no symptoms until the first fracture occurs." [2]

According to the report, "urbanization means fewer individuals spend time outside and soak up vitamin D from sunshine, while females in many countries in the Middle East or South Asia dress in restrictive clothing that prevents their skin from absorbing any sun."

An inadequate diet can also cause deficiencies of the vitamin, especially if the individuals have little or no access to fresh fruits and vegetables.

It's been noted that a "lack of vitamin D can cause brittle bones, put women and the elderly at a higher risk of osteoporosis and even cause rickets in younger children."

One way to ensure that individuals maintain adequate levels is to take a nutritional supplement with at least 50nmol/L of vitamin D each day. TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D meets those requirements and more.

According to TriVita, "the key to bone health is calcium and vitamin D. These are the two essential ingredients that will help you maintain the strength of your skeletal system, ensure regular cellular activity, proper cardiac function, and preserve the health of other vital body systems."

TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D provides, five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, and Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect valuable nutrients, time-releasing optimal absorption. The study showed that "9 percent of children aged 1 through 21 - about 7.6 million children, adolescents and young adults ? have vitamin D levels considered deficient. And another 61 percent - 50.8 million kids - have vitamin D levels that are higher but still deemed insufficient" (Kumar J et al 2009).

From the final analysis of the study of more than 6,000 children, girls, adolescents, and people with darker skin had the "lowest vitamin D levels." The final results were that " 59 percent of African American teenage girls deemed vitamin D deficient."

In the second study shows that kids, deficient in vitamin D are at risk of heart disease, and diabetes. The team conducting the study found that "adolescents with the lowest D levels had more than double the risk of having high blood pressure and blood sugar and about four times the risk for the metabolic syndrome."

The team also concluded that "low serum [blood] vitamin D [levels] in US adolescents is strongly associated with hypertension, hyperglycemia, and metabolic syndrome, independent of adiposity (excess body fat)." (Reis JP et al. 2009)

As this new evidence poured in from the leading vitamin D researchers, parents are urged to ask their doctors to test their children's vitamin D levels. That does ot come as a big surprise, since vitamin D is one of those often overlooked important vitamins. And these studies show proof that vitamin D is just as important as previously thought to be.

There's also a request from these researchers suggesting that children increase their intake of vitamin D from food and supplements, and also make sure they spend more time in the sun.

"Vitamin D researchers universally point to ample evidence that the U.S. recommended daily allowances for vitamin D (400 IU) is much too low to maintain healthy levels among kids in northern latitudes, and especially in darker-skinned teens."

Man doctors suggest drinking more milk, some even suggest drinking 10 glasses of milk per day, one of the earlier recommended sources of vitamin D. However, "supplements and fatty fish are both much higher in vitamin D than milk, and fish such as wild sockeye salmon (687 IU per 3.5 oz serving) offer the benefits of very high protein and omega-3 content as well." [3]

If your child suffers from vitamin D deficiency, or you're just looking for a better means of getting this all important vitamin, TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D may be right for your child. Sunlight (heliotherapy) was often a part of mankind's healing armamentaria, including that of Hippocrates, the Father of Western Medicine. In the early twentieth century, heliotherapy was used to treat many disorders, such as tuberculosis, rickets in children, and war wounds. Its importance was underscored when Dr. Niels Finsen was awarded the 1903 Nobel Prize for developing an ultraviolet (UV) treatment for tuberculosis.

Sunlight is composed of electromagnetic radiation of varying wavelengths, ranging from the long-wavelength infrared light to the short-wavelength ultraviolet. The ultraviolet light is further subdivided into UVA and the even shorter-wavelength UVB radiation. Although UVB causes sunburns, it is also the component that initiates Vitamin-D production in the skin.

The process by which vitamin D is produced and exerts its biological effects is complicated, involving several vitamin-D-related molecules.

Basically, UVB light triggers a modification of a cholesterol-related molecule located in the membrane of skin cells. The vitamin D that is created is then ejected from the membrane into our circulation system, where it travels to the liver. In this organ, it is transformed into 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the derivative that doctors use to assess overall vitamin-D status.

There a few foods that naturally contain vitamin D, the most abundant being oily fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel, or old-fashioned, cod liver oil. Because of limited natural sources, numerous foods, such as milk, are vitamin-D fortified.

Many scientists now believe we need 1,000 IU per day of vitamin D (IU = international units, a measure of vitamin potency) to avoid deficiency. For reference, a salmon serving contains about 360 IU, a glass of fortified milk about 100 IU, an egg 25 IU, and a tablespoon of cod liver oil 1300+ IU.

Although everyone is vulnerable to vitamin-D deficiency, especially in winter, certain groups are particularly predisposed. First, when exposed to the same amount of sunlight, elderly individuals produce only 20% of the vitamin-D young adults do. As a result, more than half of individuals older than 65 are vitamin-D deficient.

Second, due to their skin pigmentation, African Americans require much more sun to produce the same levels of vitamin D than do fair-skinned Caucasians. At least 50% of African Americans, who are also less likely to drink fortified milk due to lactose intolerance, are vitamin-D deficient sometime during the year. Apparently, as a consequence, they have a much greater incidence of disorders associated with reduced sun exposure of northern latitudes.

Since vitamin D is so important, and most of us DO NOT get enough sunlight, especially those of us who live in the northeastern section of the US, supplements may be the answer. Like all supplements, first check with your doctor, or health professional before taking them.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to http://trivitaproduct.info and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028

Resources:
Content of this article is taking from and article written by Laurance Johnston, Ph.D., called SUNLIGHT, VITAMIN D & HEALTH. And if you are over the age of 50, you face a higher risk since your body can't properly absorb vitamin D from natural sunlight."

If you've read any of my previous articles regarding vitamin D and its powerful effects on the human body, you'd understand what Mr. Lowery is saying. Vitamin D has been scientifically proven to provide you with a wide variety of health benefits that last for the long term.

Do you remember you mother telling you to drink your milk, and that you need the calcium and vitamin D to build strong bone? There was a lot of wisdom in your mothers words. Hopefully you followed her recommendation. However, vitamin D is not all about healthy bones. There have been a lot of studies done on vitamin D and some of the results are mind-boggling.

In a study done by Australian scientists, they have noted that "an inverse correlation between the condition of very sick patients and their levels of vitamin D."

"In other words, the sickest patients in the intensive care unit analyzed by researchers from Sydney’s Garvan Institute of Medical Research also had the lowest levels of vitamin D. In fact, among the 42 patients studied there were three deaths, and the deceased had the lowest levels of vitamin D in the cohort." [1]

Dr. Paul Lee, one of the researchers in the study, says "vitamin D has been linked to sugar control, heart function, gut integrity, immunity and defense against infection." [1]

"Patients in ICU suffer from different degrees of inflammation, infection, heart dysfunction, diarrhea and metabolic deregulation, so vitamin D deficiency may play a role in each of these common ICU conditions," he adds. [1]

The Australian scientists that conducted this study speculate that when we are very sick, the body draws upon any vitamin D available to function properly, and so we may need extra supplementation to maintain organ function during critical illness. Furthermore, bedridden patients are at an increased risk of bone loss and osteoporosis, and nutritional supplements containing vitamin D, which is safe even at high doses and inexpensive, may be a good idea anyway, they stress. [1]

TriVita has developed VitaCal-Mag D, which provides five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, within Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect the valuable nutrients, which are time-releasing for optimal absorption.

It's possible that you can quickly restore healthy levels of vitamin D with VitaCal-Mag D from TriVita and may even reverse many of your most dangerous health problems.

You can learn more about vitamin D, and if supplementation is right for you. I'm not a doctor or health care professional, so I can't say if you need a vitamin D supplement However, from my research, I believe that if you're not getting enough sunlight exposure, or eating foods high in vitamin D, you should do something.

To learn more about this all important vitamin, go to http://trivitaproduct.info and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
440-725-3729

Sources:
[1] http://www.betterhealthresearch.com/news/is-vitamin-d-deficiency-a-problem-in-acute-illness-19187383/?LOC=issue&SC=HEZ2909R

Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D deficiency is widespread and continues to increase

A new report issued by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), the largest global non-governmental organization dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, and published in the scientific journal Osteoporosis International, shows that populations across the globe are suffering from the impact of low levels of vitamin D, with highest rates in South Asia and the Middle East. The problem is widespread and on the increase, with potentially severe repercussions for overall health and fracture rates.

Compiled by IOF's expert working group on nutrition, the report reviews the scope and causes of low vitamin D levels in six regions: Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Africa, North America and Oceania. Regional reports are available on the IOF website.

Vitamin D is mainly produced in the skin upon exposure to sunlight, and, to a lesser extent, is derived from nutritional sources. It plays an important role, through its influence on calcium levels, in the maintenance of organ systems, and is needed for normal bone mineralization and growth.

Suboptimal levels of vitamin D may lead to increased risk of osteoporosis and hip fracture and, in severe cases, to the development of rickets, a softening of bones in children that can lead to skeletal fractures and deformity.

Although there is ongoing debate as to what constitutes the optimal level of vitamin D, the report shows that regardless of whether it is defined at 50nmol/L or 75nmol/L, vitamin D status is seriously inadequate in large proportions of the population across the globe.

The main risk factors for low vitamin D levels include older age, female sex, lower latitudes [i.e., greater distance from the equator], winter season, darker skin pigmentation, less sunlight exposure, dietary habits, and the absence of vitamin D fortification in common foods.

Further [risk] factors include the increase in urbanization, where people tend to live and work indoors, as well as cultural practices that tend towards sun avoidance and the wearing of traditional clothing that covers the skin. The severity of the problem in the Middle East and South Asia arises from the combination of several of these risk factors.

These findings suggest that prevention strategies must be initiated at the national level - especially given the increasing ageing of populations in many regions of the world. National plans of action should encourage safe, limited exposure to sunlight and improved dietary intake of vitamin D, whilst considering fortification of foods as well.

To learn more about this all important vitamin, go to http://trivitaproduct.info and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net

Source:
http://www.iofbonehealth.org/news/news-detail.html?newsID=281

Vitamin D

"Lab studies have suggested that higher vitamin D blood levels may boost cognitive functions of the brain. And people with impaired cognitive function are more likely to develop dementia, with some small clinical studies suggesting that low levels of vitamin D may be associated with dementia and poor cognitive function." [1]

A previously conducted study found that "people with optimum levels of vitamin D were much less likely to be cognitively impaired. In other words, having too little vitamin D in your body appeared to make it harder to think … a status associated with greater risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other forms of dementia." [2]

A new study conducted by a joint team of British and American doctors have found similar results as the previous study. They also concluded that vitamin D is a "hormone-like vitamin" that is a "necessary brain nutrient." The study determined that "people with the lowest vitamin D levels were more than twice as likely to have impaired understanding, compared to those with the highest vitamin D levels" (Llewellyn DJ et al. 2009).[3]

The understanding of the role of vitamin D in maintaining optimal health has advanced sharply in the past two decades. There is mounting evidence for beneficial roles for vitamin D in reducing the risk of bone diseases and fractures, many types of cancer, bacterial and viral infections, autoimmune diseases, and cardiovascular diseases.

Recently, several reports have also been published regarding the role of vitamin D in neuroprotection. It should be no surprise that doctors and scientists continue to study the effects of vitamin D deficiency in the aging. With Alzheimer and other forms of dementia on the rise, the search for a cure is ever present.

Vitamin D supplements can be found in every health food aisle of your favorite grocery and drug store. I believe that people understand that a lack of this all important, formerly known, sunshine vitamin causes serious problems to the human body. However, is supplementation the answer?

Within the previously mentioned studies, scientists conclude that "further research is warranted to investigate whether vitamin D supplementation is a cost effective and safe way of reducing the incidence of cognitive impairment in the growing elderly population around the world."

You can learn more about vitamin D, and if supplementation is right for you. Not being a doctor or health professional, I cannot say if you need to take a vitamin D supplement, but from what I've read, I do believe that if I'm not getting out in the sun enough, or eating foods high in vitamin D, I should do something to up my daily intake.

The nutritional experts at TriVita know the importance of vitamin D. That's why they have created VitaCal-Mag D.

To learn more about this all important vitamin, go to http://trivitaproduct.info and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net

Sources:
[1] http://newsletter.vitalchoice.com/e_article001482131.cfm?x=bfLTlM3,bfv5gTb0
[2] http://newsletter.vitalchoice.com/e_article001450294.cfm?x=bfDcRpD,b7b1jv7h,w
[3] Llewellyn DJ, Langa K, Lang I. The sun also contributes significantly to the daily production of vitamin D, and as little as 10 minutes of exposure is thought to be enough to prevent deficiencies.

The major biologic function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. Recently, research also suggests vitamin D may provide protection from osteoporosis, hypertension (high blood pressure), cancer, and several autoimmune diseases.[1]

In a recent study, a team of European researchers has demonstrated that higher levels of vitamin D are associated with improved cognitive function in middle-aged and older men.

The study compared the cognitive performance of more than 3,000 men aged 40 to 79 years, and found that those with higher levels of vitamin D performed consistently better in a test that assesses an individual’s attention and speed of information processing.
The experiment took into account factors such as depression, season and levels of physical activity.

"Previous studies exploring the relationship ... produced inconsistent findings, but we observed a significant, independent association between a slower information processing speed and lower levels of vitamin D," says lead author Dr. David Lee from the University of Manchester School of Translational Medicine.[2]

Since vitamin D is primarily synthesized in the skin following sun exposure, and not many people get enough exposure to sunlight on a daily basis, and because of our fast paced lifestyle, nutritional supplements may be the best means to receive this all important vitamin.

To learn more about this all important vitamin, go to http://trivitaproduct.info and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
Independent TriVita Business Affiliate, 12871028
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net

Sources
[1] http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vitamin-d/NS_patient-vitamind
[2] http://www.betterhealthresearch.com/news/vitamin-d-rich-foods-may-help-maintain-good-memory-19206501/

Vitamin D

Vitamin D Research

Have you ever wondered if all the claims about vitamin D are true or not? Well I have found more research to back up what I've reported in the past. Vitamin D is very important to maintaining a healthy body, and the deficiency thereof, may cause more health issue than we realize. Below are a few of the findings along with some of the sources.

Researchers in Belgium have recently shown that critically ill patients are profoundly deficient in vitamin D—and that vitamin D supplements can help lower their blood evidence of inflammation. Even small amounts of vitamin D, about 500 IU, lowered inflammation by more than 25% in that small group of critically ill patients.

In another study, researchers at the University of London found that vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased inflammation in otherwise healthy people-and that supplementing with vitamin D dramatically reduces inflammation throughout the body. The authors concluded, "This finding provides a possible mechanism for tissue damage in chronic inflammatory conditions, including heart and blood sugar problems."

Earlier this year, researchers once again reaffirmed that patients with serious heart problems have critically low levels of vitamin D. The scientists concluded vitamin D deficiency might contribute to the development of congestive heart failure.

If that's not enough to make you believe that vitamin D is important, here is some additional information I've discovered. These are not exact quotes, however, there are sources of the general content of the findings.

In a study with 583 elderly women (mean age 85 years), those given 1,200 mg of calcium and 800 IU of vitamin D had a 69% reduced risk of suffering a hip fracture. - Osteoporosis International

A group of 2,686 people ages 65 to 85 living in the general community was assigned to receive four monthly 100,000 IU doses of vitamin D3 supplement or a placebo during the winter months. This amount averages about 800 IU of vitamin D daily.

The group receiving the supplemental vitamin D had a reduced risk of 22% for sustaining a first general fracture and a 33% reduced risk for sustaining a first fracture of common sites. - British Medical Journal

Low vitamin D linked to blood pressure problems! The lower your vitamin D levels, the higher your risk for high blood pressure. - New England Journal of Medicine

A group of 122 women with an average age of 85, were observed for six weeks prior to receiving either 1,200 mg of calcium daily or 1,200 mg of calcium and 800 IU of vitamin D daily for three months.

Muscle strength increased only in the group receiving both calcium and vitamin D. This group also had a 49% reduction in falls.

Researchers theorized that vitamin D increases calcium flow in the muscle tissue, which improves contraction, thus preventing falls. - Bone and Mineral Research

Low vitamin D levels are a significant factor in failure of the heart muscle. - Journal of the American College of Cardiology

Need more proof? Do you own research, or ask your health professional. Don't take my word for it, but understand that I don't believe that all these researchers, scientists, and doctors are wrong. Did you ever wonder why the elderly migrate to the sunshine state in the winter? And wouldn't you say they all look healthier, and live longer? I would have to say that there must be at least some truth to all this research.

To learn more about this all important vitamin, go to http://trivitaproduct.info and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net

Vitamin D

Vitamin D

I've written many articles about the importance of vitamin D, and how a lack thereof, leads to heart problems, immune system functionality, and even cancer. My research has found that vitamin D is a very important piece to the overall health of the human body, especially in women.

Here is another study to back up my previous findings: One of the latest studies, conducted by the University of Missouri, concludes that "vitamin D deficiency is associated with inflammation, a negative response of the immune system, in healthy women." [1]

Catherine Peterson, assistant professor in the MU College of Human Environmental Sciences says, "the findings reveal that low vitamin D levels negatively impact inflammation and immune response, even in healthy women. Increased inflammation normally is found in people with obesity or chronic diseases; a small decrease in vitamin D levels may aggravate symptoms in people who are sick."

With more and more studies being conducted each day, how can someone get vitamin D into their body? According to experts the most natural way is through exposure to sunlight. However, not everyone lives in an area where exposure to sunlight is the norm. As a matter of fact, many northern states are lacking the average daily sunlight needed to sustain the proper amounts of vitamin D, especially in the winter months.

Peterson says, "exposing 25 percent of the skin's surface area to 10 minutes of sunlight three days per week will maintain adequate levels in the majority of people; however, people with darkly-pigmented skin need more. Only a few foods contain vitamin D naturally, such as fatty fish; other sources are dietary supplements and vitamin-D-fortified foods, including milk and orange juice."

With sunlight being the best source of vitamin D, and the fact that most people do not have the opportunity to get the needed sunlight exposure, it seems like the most logical source of this all important vitamin is through supplements. That's why I promote TriVita's VitaCal Mag-D.

TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D provides, five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, and Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect valuable nutrients, time-releasing optimal absorption. TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D is also absorbable so you can get the nutrition you need for healthier bones.

[2]

"The results (of the study by MU) support the need to re-examine the biological basis for determining the dietary reference intake (DRI) of vitamin D", Peterson said. "The Institute of Medicine's DRI for vitamin D is 200 IU for people age 50 and younger and 400 IU for people 50 to 70 years old. The guidelines, created in 1997, are being revised to reflect new research, and Peterson is confident the DRI will be increased."/

Research will continue to be done on vitamins and minerals, and we are continuing to see vitamins, like vitamin D, have a greater positive affect on the human body than once thought. Once only thought of as the "bone" vitamin, vitamin D, through extensive research, is now becoming more critical to the overall wellness of your body.

To learn more about this all important vitamin, go to http://trivitaproduct.info and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net

References:
[1] http://munews.missouri.edu/news-releases/2009/0406-peterson-vitamin-d.php
[2] http://trivitaproduct.info/vitamind.html

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is created in the skin upon exposure to sunlight. However, a large portion of our population may be vitamin D deficient, or may be receiving insufficient amounts of vitamin D.

Deficient, or less than recommended, blood levels of vitamin D are linked to osteoporosis, muscle weakness, fractures, common cancers, auto immune diseases, infectious diseases and cardiovascular diseases.

It's no mystery that many Americans of all ages have vitamin D blood levels that fall below those recommended for optimal health.

So how can we increase our levels of vitamin D?

Get more exposure to sunlight would seem to be the logical choice. However, when you live in the northern states, sunlight is not always the easiest means of achieving this all important vitamin. With that being said, the next best source of vitamin D wold seem to be diet.

What types of foods are high in vitamin D?

There are only a few naturally occurring food sources of vitamin D, most of which are high in fat. These include fatty fish and eggs. Some foods are fortified with vitamin D. These include cow's milk, some soy milk and rice milk, some breakfast cereals and some breakfast bars.

Sockeye salmon are an exceptionally rich source of vitamin D: a 4-ounce serving of baked or broiled sockeye salmon provides 739.37 IU of vitamin D. The same 4-ounce serving of Chinook salmon, another excellent source of vitamin D, supplies 411 IU.
Why are sockeye salmon even more richly endowed with vitamin D than other salmon species? Because zoo plankton constitute so much of their diet, and zoo plankton-along with phytoplankton-are the key sources of vitamin D in the marine food chain. [1]

Vitamin D can also be obtained from multivitamins (most contain 400 IU), in combination with some calcium supplements, or alone as a separate vitamin D supplement.

Healthy children and adults can usually get enough vitamin D from sunlight, food and/or multivitamins. Adults, who carefully protect their skin with sunscreen and/or wear protective clothing, do not consume milk or other vitamin D rich foods and do not take a multivitamin should speak to their healthcare provider about how to get enough vitamin D.

Homebound individuals with little sun exposure should discuss their risk of vitamin D deficiency with their healthcare provider and try to get enough vitamin D from diet and/or supplements. Senior adults over age 70 have the greatest need for vitamin D and are less able to make vitamin D from sunlight.

Seniors need to be sure to consume enough vitamin D. It is difficult for many seniors to get enough vitamin D from foods and therefore a supplement may be needed. There is some evidence that adequate calcium and vitamin D intake in seniors may even reduce the risk for fracture.

If you live in the north and do not get enough exposure to the sun, make sure you find other means of getting vitamin D. Some health professionals even claim that the "federal food and health agencies should begin a vitamin D awareness campaign aimed at the general public, especially among populations at highest risk for vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency."

Looking for a vitamin D supplement? The American Public Health Association (APHA) has been doing extensive research on this all important vitamin. The evidence of their research supports the fact that low vitamin D blood levels is being linked to many human diseases.

The APHA even goes as far as saying that "Vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency is recognized as a major public health concern for both children and adults in the United States."

Further research reveals that albacore tuna and wild salmon rank as "the richest known sources of vitamin D." Because of this fact, Vital Choice has developed "a high-quality, higher-potency vitamin D supplement...one with unique characteristics." [1]

Are all vitamin D supplements created equal? According to Vital Choice, their vitamin D3 supplements contain "no artificial preservatives, colors, dairy, starch, wheat, or yeast."

They are also saying that "Vitamin D3 is the preferred, natural form, proven the most effective at raising and maintaining vitamin D levels in the blood."

What is the difference between vitamin D, D3, and D2? According to the Vital Choice newsletter article entitled, NEW! Vitamin D in Wild Salmon Oil, "most studies support vitamin D3 as the most effective form for raising and maintaining vitamin D levels in the blood."

"The cheaper, more common synthetic form - called vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) - does not occur in the human body naturally, nor is it found in human diets."

"Supplement makers use vitamin D2 - created by irradiating fungi - because it costs less than vitamin D3."

TriVita's VitaCal-MagD combines vitamin D with calcium and vitamin B6 to "help you maintain the strength of your skeletal system, ensure regular cellular activity, proper cardiac function, and preserve the health of other vital body systems."

There is no claim as to the information laid out by Vital Choice's newsletter with regards to their vitamin D coming from vitamin D2 in a synthetic form, or created by irradiating fungi. However, they do state that "VitaCal-Mag D is absorbable so you can get the nutrition you need for healthier bones."

I'm not sure where all this research of vitamin D is headed, but I do know how many articles I've seen lately regarding this all important, and highly disregarded vitamin. Whether all the claims are true, or not, we'll have to wait and see.

Two facts are true, 1.) vitamin D is important to a healthy body, and 2.) the human body cannot produce vitamin D. With that said, the most logical means of receiving vitamin D is through supplementation.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to http://trivitaproduct.info and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
Internet Marketing Advisors

Resources:
[1] http://newsletter.vitalchoice.com/index000363154.cfm

Vitamin D

Research is indicating that many of us need much more vitamin D than we are getting. According to research, vitamin D plays a role in the prevention of much more than just bone loss. Receptors for vitamin D are found in most of the cells of the body. Vitamin D been shown to contribute to a healthy immune system, muscle strength and hormone production.

As a known fact, the major function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. Recent research also suggests it may provide protection from osteoporosis, hypertension, heart disease, certain cancers and several autoimmune diseases including diabetes.

Here's a recent suggestion that I find very interesting: vitamin D may help in weight control. You may have heard of the study that cites individuals with more calcium in their diets tend to have lower body mass indexes (BMI). Well, given that vitamin D is responsible for controlling calcium levels in the blood, it follows that this vitamin plays a role in the high calcium, low BMI phenomenon.

Researchers have also found that obese people have an impaired ability to synthesize vitamin D from sunlight. And, they are looking into the connection between excess calcium deposits in the arteries (cardiovascular disease) and low blood levels of vitamin D.

Vitamin D also plays a role in blood sugar regulation. Swings in blood sugar signal our body's fat storage mechanism and signals our brain to eat or not.

UV-B rays can be blocked by usning sunscreen and by some types of glass. Not all bodies are created equal. It takes different bodies different amounts of time in the midday sun to get adequate levels of vitamin D. The darker your skin, the more time you need in the sun to get this very important vitamin.

What are good sources of vitamin D other than the sun? Cod liver oil, some oily fishes, lard (pork fat), butter, dairy fat and egg yolks are some good sources of vitamin D. Beyond that, it's pretty difficult to get enough of this vitamin from dietary sources alone. So, if you work inside and wear sunscreen, or live at latitudes far from the equator, supplementation may a good thing. [1]

The nutritional experts at TriVita know the importance of vitamin D. That's why they have created VitaCal-Mag D.

TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D is also absorbable so you can get the nutrition you need for healthier bones.

With more and more research being done on vitamins and minerals, we are seeing that vitamins, like vitamin D, have a wider range of positive affects on the human body. Once only thought of as the "bone" vitamin, vitamin D, because of extensive reserarch, is now becoming more important to the overall wellness of your body.

Since vitamin D is so important, and most of us DO NOT get enough sunlight, especially if you live in the northeastern section of the US, supplements may be the answer. Like all supplements, first check with your doctor, or health professional before taking them.

To learn more about TriVita's VitaCal-Mag D, go to http://trivitaproduct.info and click on the Vitamin D link.

Jeffrey Sloe
440-725-3729
jeff@internetmarketingadvisors.net
TriVita Independent Business Affiliate, 12871028
Internet Marketing Advisors

Resources:
[1] http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/vitamins/vitaminD/index.html
[2] http://www.articlecat.com/Article/The-Vitamin-D-Debates-Continue/24808

Vitamin D

American experts say that vitamin D supplementation should be increased to help promote bone health and ward off diseases like osteoporosis.

I've read reports that say, "the data collected, from tests on aging women, suggests that vitamin D sufficiency is more important that high calcium intake. And women need less calcium for normal homeostatis (balance) if your vitamin D (or sunshine) is good. But still you need some calcium in your diet."

It's my understanding that calcium is important for reducing osteoporosis-linked bone loss in older people, and vitamin D -- which the body makes naturally through exposure to sunlight -- plays a vital role in helping the body absorb that calcium. Supplements can also be used to raise vitamin D levels.

Current recommendations call for 300 to 600 International Units of vitamin D a day, with the amount increasing with age. However, quite a few people advocate as much as 1,000 International Units a day, with 1,000 to 1,200 milligrams of calcium.

One of those advocates of increased levels of vitamin D is Dr. Robert P. Heaney, an endocrinologist who holds the title of university professor at Creighton University, in Omaha, NE.

"I am concerned about the elderly and infirm," Heaney said. "They don't make as much vitamin D as other people and they have a higher requirement for it. We need to consider giving everyone enough so that the vulnerable get as much as they need. I think we could do that without endangering people who get above-the-normal blood level range, but that is not a universal consensus."

"My best estimate is that the body uses 4,000 International Units a day, " Dr. Heaney said. "We get about a tenth of that by mouth. The other 90 percent comes from the skin, created by exposure to sunlight. "

So, if you live in the Northeast, or Midwest where we do not get as much sunlight as people living in the south, it's important to take a daily vitamin D supplement, like the one sold by TriVita.

It is also present in our diet, mainly in cold-water fish and dark green vegetables.

A recent newspaper headline read, “Vitamin DLinked to Parkinson’s disease.” At first glance, it may not be clear if Vitamin D is a culprit or an “illness-fighter.” Well, in fact, just as Vitamin D helps build bones, Vitamin D plays a role in building our brains – it is an “illness-fighter.”

Vitamin D and Parkinson’s
Previous studies have shown that the part of the brain affected most by Parkinson’s, the substantia nigra, has high levels of the Vitamin D receptor, which suggests Vitamin D may be important for normal functions of these cells.

If we look at other Vitamin D research, low levels of Vitamin D have been found to be associated with:

Many neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s

Auto immune disorders such as multiple sclerosis

Metabolic disorders such as diabetes. Vitamin D is formed when sunlight strikes the skin and interacts with cholesterol. Its main purpose is to shuttle calcium and other minerals to the bones.

Vitamin D – a messenger
Information is carried by a number of messengers inside your body, including proteins and fats. Vitamin D can also act like a messenger, telling the cells how much work to do. Think of this like building a house. Proteins give specific instructions in the same way a carpenter may decide how best to connect walls and windows and doors. Fats may serve as the building materials for the entire house. Vitamin D serves as the general contractor to determine how much building should be done at any specific time. We certainly need proteins and protein complexes of Vitamin B-12 to create the structures making up our brain. We also need the fats found in such products as Omega Prime® to serve as raw materials and general information on brain repair. We need Vitamin D to tell us how much brain to build when we are young and how much repair work to do as we age.

why winter is the time for more Vitamin D
We get Vitamin D from sunlight, foods and supplements. Because we are exposed to less sunshine in the winter than in the summer, we need to be more vigilant about supplementing with Vitamin D and exposing our skin to sunshine whenever practical. Most doctors who recommend Vitamin D explain that winter cold and fl u outbreaks are directly related to Vitamin D deficiency. If you take supplements to ensure you’re getting enough Vitamin D, make sure they’re the type that your body can really use. It’s best to take supplements formulated for maximum absorption, such as TriVita’s VitaCal-Mag D™ or TriVita Bone Builder. This way, you can help ensure that you’re getting the full benefits of Vitamin D to meet the serious challenges of daily life.

DID You Know?
Growing evidence links low Vitamin D levels to stroke, congestive heart failure and common heart disease risk factors such as hypertension (high blood pressure), obesity and diabetes. Patients with Vitamin D levels below 15ng/ml double their chances of heart attack or stroke within the next five years. Researchers strongly recommend screening for and treating low Vitamin D levels, especially in patients who are at risk for heart disease or diabetes.

Why Vitamin D stands for “illness-fighter” By Dr. Tammy Pon
Tammy Pon, M.D, a functional medicine physician, received her medical degree from the University of Texas in Houston. She completed specialty training in Healthy Aging. Make sure you get an adequate supply of Vitamin D. or to find out more about VitaCal-Mag D and Bone Builder. Click Here

David Ogden
Phone 1-386-308-1956
Skype Seadogs11
